You can't go wrong with this tuning. Left Brain(Tool Cover Band) uses this but drops the C#(6th String) down to B. |

In light of recent assumed e-thuggyness, everyone should know that Black Maria very much enjoys a good wind-up/piss take at anyone's expense (including our own)..

I'm not sure if this is completely a dead thread or not. After reading the last 11 pages I have a better feel for your style black. Sorry for being a cocksucker in gen chat
I had a question for ya, sorry if this is beneath you I'm a noob in the band thing. How do the politics of black maria work? Like if you had an idea for the song but someone was playing a part you thought was garbage or not what the song is trying to say, do you jump right out and say figure something different out, or grit your teeth because it's a collective creative piece. Is there some type of majority rule thing going on? Or does it just not happen and the guys in your band only give you gold? We have one experienced musician in my band, but everyone else is new to the process... Maybe you could shed some light on it. Thanks, Jed-Nine-Zero |

No, this tread isn't dead. We've just been busy with day/night jobs, traveling and Rocking the fuck out.
You brought some good questions to us here and I just want to make sure the answer is clear. Give us a little more time to get to it. And come to see Black Maria play (it will help with the answer) If you aren't old enough to see us in a bar, we will be playing June 4th at Bleeding Eardrum Studios, an All-Ages venue. Bring your friends and your bandmates. Yeah? (still the best) Hated (band in town)..... |

What happened to this kid? Did his parents ground him or did it turn out he was another Latta alias?
So much for his "Rock" phase I guess.. (still the best) Hated (band in town)..... |

My guess is their band politics works something like this: run the Mesa stacks to 11. Whoever blows their el34s first doesn't get heard. Or do you run 6l6? That's part of the Black mystery.

One of the most perplexing secrets of Black Maria is that they only run their amps around 3-4! |

So much for that theory... Come to think of it, those rigs should be blowing the roofs off arenas, much less Burts.

...And your board. The stage is a quarter pipe! All your Black Maria questions will be answered! (As well as many of your Sandia man, and Tarrakian questions.) |

So you have to be active on a message board to be in a band? I expanded in to rock squawk thinking that their might be some sense of community and fellowship between the musicians in Albuquerque. I discovered there isn't and thus curbed my usage.
Sorry, I thought this was a Q and A thread. apparently it isn't. Jed-Nine-Zero |

What's the name of your band?
Is it Butt Secks? According to the urban slang dictionary, butt secks is "Online jargon that means butt sex, which in turn means gay sex." Is your band along the lines of Frankie Goes to Hollywood?* *Not that there's anything wrong with that, just asking. |
|||
|
![]() |
I'd be really inclined to give an answer explaining "buttsecks." I'd love to trail on for several paragraphs about my band and all that they do. Maybe reach out to more experienced musicians for some words of encouragement or perhaps advice.
Just not worth my time. As the prolific black has already demonstrated, this is not a Q and A thread. There isn't really anything to be gained from rocksquawk, at least for me. It appears to me it's simply a tool for fo-musical morons to stroke their own egos. I'm not interested in small minded arrogance. Which is why I haven't bothered to log in lately. I'm really not missing anything... and I'm just throwing this out there: Perhaps the reason Black Maria is still playing local shows and not circulating like their creative counterpart "The Black Maria" is they all act like black in real life. Not professional, or courteous. Maybe their goal isn't success they just want to play in bars and be able to say "I'm in a band" to impress all the girls. and practice is just an excuse to make lines that are "wider than the straw." I don't really know, I'm in the whole gig to have a good time. Rocksquawk is definitely not a tool for that. Jed-Nine-Zero |

isn't that the definition of success? why else would anybody play in a band?? |

Oh geez, Skippy. What part of your Q did I not A? Did you not read my post to you above? And what's the deal with your utter and complete lack of humor? As far as a community and being part of one goes, how do you justify your behavior here and still expect everyone to embrace you? In real life do you go to a party or place where there are people you want to get to know/interact with and proceed to shit in the middle of the floor? That's what you have done here from the start. You will get nowhere "reaching out" to "more professional musicians" with your attitude and style. You will be seen in much the same light as you were here--immature, clueless and unable to behave in a humble fashion when encountering new environments.
I excepted your apology and explained why I/we were not able to go into a detailed answer at that time. We also extended a personal invitation to see us play and answer your questions in person, as well as give you a chance to see how a real band works. A band with seasoned musicians with common goals. A band that quite frankly kicks ass and continues to draw interest both locally and around the world. A band that is a part of a musical community both locally and internationally. A band who can count many, many musicians and bands in this town alone as peers, friends and creative counterparts. Your attempt to insult us with that whole The Black Maria crack shows how much you could learn from us. You don't know what you are talking about boy. Your dreams of musical success are archaic and out of touch with the realities of what is left of the "music industry" The band you tried to tag as our "creative counterpart"--something they were never-- is proof of your ignorance. That band had nothing to do with our style or approach and hasn't even been a band since the middle of 2007. Maybe even before that. Their website is for sale and they haven't played or practiced in years. They were a pre-fab product, designed to sell units to unsophisticated musical palettes. Like many money grubbing musicians, they had no sense of unity. They went through many personnel changes in a short time and ultimately ended up owing Victory Records far more money than they ever could generate. A model for failure that I'm happy to have no interest in. Your foolishness and ignorance is further demonstrated with weak comments about your perceptions of our "circulating" or lack thereof. You have learned nothing from reading this and other band's dialogues and seem unaware of the concept of a local music scene, people who support it and why it is. Don't make assumptions as to what ours or any other band you don't know motivation(s) is/are. Your immature glibness and weak ass, smug attitude will practically guarantee failure for you and any musical project you drag down with you. This isn't High School and no one cares that you are taking trig or physics. If you want to judge someone and their attitude, if you want to proclaim their lack of "professionalism" ,have the maturity to seek them out in person. Get to know them and then pass your judgements. As far as courtesy goes, you are the numb nuts that jumped on this board with an endless spew of insults and childish attitude. Then when called on it, you whimpered about how other message boards are and you were just doing like they do there. Well this isn't there. RockSquawk is unique unto itself and many, many strangers have found support, advice and bandmates here, not to mention a good time with e-jackassery ans innerweb antics. So again, I invite you to see us live. Talk to us. Know that we have collectively been in more bands, toured more miles and put out more vinyl, cassettes and cds than anyone you know. We have experience beyond your mental grasp and our motives/motivations and reasons aren't something you have a clue about without getting to know us. Yet we are approachable and fore the most part, willing to impart whatever knowledge and experience we have. Do know that if you want to accuse my bandmates of some of the bullshit you have posted here, make sure you say it to their faces. The results may give you even further life experience and something that is perhaps worth posting. Now take a deep breath, think before you start posting and for god's sake, practice your instrument. You still have a ways to go... (still the best) Hated (band in town)..... |

I'll admit my previous post was made strictly out of anger.
The reason I'm so angry about this trash is: I ask a question that I'm generally interested in having answered on a board where you answer questions, you wait 15 days and post "give us some more time to answer" wait another 15 days and then post "What happened to this kid? Did his parents ground him." 2 days before the show you invited myself and my bandmates to. The truth, it took me 1 day longer to respond to a post than it did for you. For this I am publicly ridiculed and my passion for music passed off as a "rock phase" I understand that I know nothing about you, as I'm sure you understand you don't know anything about me, but if your going call me immature for not "hav[ing] the maturity to seek [you] out in person," shouldn't you "have the maturity" yourself? I've reworded that sentence 3 times trying to make it less accusatory, no avail. Please, it's not an attack. I'd like to apologize for my previous post. I was fuming when I wrote it. I'm not planing on being on squawk much, good luck to you, to your band, and with all that you do. Later, Jed-Nine-Zero |

Thank you for that. Please realize that lack of a timely response here is never a personal insult to anyone. Like many musicians who are older, we have other obligations outside of music. Day jobs, educaton, homes, families and other outside interests put message board dialoging and MySpacing low on the priority list. Those reasons and others make old school ideas like talking in person, a better way to comunicate, be it in person, or on the phone. I figured our apppearing in public more than your band would simply be a chance to facilitate such dialoge. Again, my slow response was not a slight to your honest and relevant question. I'd still be happy to respond to it, but the answer can become complicated and perhaps convaluted or misconstrued on a message board. Sharing knowledge and encouraging others to persue their musical dreams is important. I believe in it and am happy to put harsh words, percieved attitudes and innerweb jackassery aside if you would like to pick up where we left off. I am a slow typist and a fast talker. It would be easier and more comprehensive to do it in person. Feel free to PM me to exchange numbers and/or set up a time to explore your questions further.

Maybe the turn in this thread is the expression of the inevitable betrayal of youthful optimism. I believe the personas represented on Squawk are about humor and if they don't love you, you can take comfort from the fact they just don't care. Don't take it personally, Newguy, let Jed-Nine-Zero take the hits he sticks his chin out for. I think the people behind their personas are cool dudes and sick fuckers; just like real life. Pour it on, ease it up, or whatever; never give up, the show will go on!
