Change in plans- Guitars are next. Due to a recommendation from a higher authority, the bootybass has been rescheduled. Hey John- you need to learn how to spell drum equipment. Have you been smoking crack at work again?

The drums are finished and sound incredible. Sid did a hell of a job working with Steve to knock the drum parts out. I was very happy with the way the kickdrum sounded with Steve’s double bass onslaughts. I’m going to record my guitar parts today. (10/30/2006) I’m very excited for this.. I worked with Sid last night to get my guitar tones the way I envisioned. Crunchy, Thick, Crisp for the Dirty and Warmer, Melodic, Dreamy for the Clean. I’m using my Marshall 100 Watt MG100HDFX Head with my 4x12 Celestion G12 MG Speaker Cab for the tone. We decided to only us my Ibanez SA160QMAM Transparent Amber guitar for both the standard D & C Tunings because it sounded the best vs. my other guitars.

How many guitar tracks per song are you doing?

Not that many actually! It sounds huge just with the left and right recordings. We wanted to keep it clean. Maybe 2-4 guitars per song. The guitars came out sick though! Fucking really clean and the dirty is super chunky just like mom used to make. Mmmmmmmmm... C tuning makes me salivate. I ended up having to pull out my old Crate Combo Amp to get a better, warmer clean tone because what we were getting from the Marshall just wasn't good enough. I can't wait to show everyone. We do not sound like we did 6 months ago when we recorded our first E.P.

My advice is to do true doubling if you can - I just cloned my one part and used it to thicken up the mix on our demo, but it just doesn't work as well as two guitars recorded seperately. The slight differences between two different takes is what makes it sound "real" to my ears. We were trying to get it done on the cheap, but in retrospect, I wish I'd spent another hour or two doubling my parts. Anyhoo, thanks for the update - can't wait to hear the stuff!

I agree! That's what I did. I recorded the left side then recorded the right side. It takes a little bit more time but well worth it in the end.

It's sounding pretty cool. I am really happy with the way this has been turning out. Sid has some great skills and has been a pleasure to work with.

Half of the bass tracks are done. I easily knocked out each track in one take (maybe less) and the whole process took a total of about 30 minutes. Basically using a pretty standard procedure for recording bass. One direct signal from my outboard preamp and compressor, and one mic from my cabinet.

Goodness, a few more bass tracks have been laid down. The process has been so easy for me that I am not sure why I even bother to come in, it's like the track just creates itself. I barely have to even play anymore. Sid couldnt help but doze off at the console a few times the recording. One song left for me, then the mighty Black Hawk will go in and hoot or rap or whatever it is he does.

The only thing I can say is.. Well, like my good old brother Sarg says, "Stay humble or else your going to get your ass kicked."

Hey, dont let people know about my studio name! OK, maybe I exaggerated a little on the amount of takes some of my parts took. What can I say, I'm a perfectionist!

Is it just me, or did Hawk slim down a little bit in that photo? Vocals are coming along. I wasnt there for his first session, but I heard his studio style takes after Dr. Inchworm. This means the vocals should sound truly amazing, after enough takes.
