I'll kick this off with Microscopic Beast. The demented mastermind behind this was a buddy of mine in middle school. Obscenely talented and off kilter dude.

Sounds like- the cumulative effect of too many heavy LSD trips.

I saw these cats at Atomic, opening up for a few stragglers. The best part are the 80's guitar solos ("Emma").

A little late this week due to an illness that was unfortunately picked up while incarcerated.

Opus Dai. One of my favorite singers that I have heard in a long time. Drummer with a pretty different approach. The stuff on their album (listened to only recently) is even better than their myspace tunes.

Here is the latest. Sorry I've been slacking.

Aghora from Miami. This band was formed around 1999 with members from Death and Cynic (Sean Reinert, drummer, and Sean Malone, bassist) and a Berkelie educated guitarist, Santiago Dobles. The lineup has changed over the years and the musicians in this project are pretty much experts in their field.

They have a new album that has just been completed. The new song on their site is "atmas heave."

Sounds like Dream Theater on crack, with no keyboards and a chick vocalist. If intellectual sounding progressive metal is your thing, you'll like it.

My bad Ranita, I've been slacking. What can I say? I'm a culero.

Here is the latest- Within the Ruins. These are the cats from Boston that we'll be playing with on March 2nd.

Thrashy/crunky metal with metalcore vocals and a bit of that retro 80's melodic flavor in the choruses. What's up with the 80's metal coming back?

I've been slacking for a few months. Here is a defunct band I've been enjoying recently.

Twice the Sun was a popular band in Miami around the time I was a musician there. They got signed to Roadrunner (by the guy who discovered Incubus) and broke up shortly after. Not sure what the deal was- I think it had something to do with the musical direction the label wanted them to go. The vocalist is great though, it's too bad they didnt continue with things.

This is the weak myspace with an original song of theirs-

Here is a Roadrunner page with some of the demos they recorded on the label's dime (two songs on that one track).

Chief Beef... great progressive/indie/rock band out of Phoenix. Their music incorporates some of the better things about that style musically but without the nut tucking or juvenile fashion.

My favorite song of theirs currently on myspace is "quitting"

Pretty put together experimental/metal band from North Carolina. You can hear a little Dillinger Escape Plan influence in their songs, but they have a wide range of textures to their music. Doesnt sound like they have vocals, but they do have electronics/space sounds.

I must have forgotten these cats on my list- This band is one of my all time favorite bands out of the ones I've run across on myspace.

Excellent thrashy metal, good song structures, the female singer (screamer) will grow on you. Good drumming as well.

How could I forget these guys-

Based out of Miami FL. Pretty intresting tech-ish metal. You can hear a little Dillinger Escape Plan influence, on top of a Tool/Pantera type of mentality. These guys are all excellent musicians. Particularly the guitarist and drummer. Some of their new stuff is sounding very NIN ripoff though.

Here are a few older songs of theirs (which I like more than the myspace ones) with a different singer and a lot more of an experimental/psychedelic sound.
