D.R.S. features ex-members of Spiritu and Brujo, as well as "a fugitive from the San Francisco music scene." Their sound? "blues-based, heavy power trio with a groove," says the band. Thanks to black for this bit of squawkery on our 2/27/06 performance opening for Pearls & Brass:
"...Devil Riding Shotgun started the evening in fine form. DRS lay down a hard, rocking and often dissonant rhythm and signature sound that seems firmly anchored in Metal. Effortless guitar explorations up and down the neck are subtlety enhanced by Alan’s thoughtful use of effects…..wah and various distortion and overdrive add to the dynamics of each song. Unexpected forays into boogie and back to the original, serious musical theme, laid out once again by the rhythm section of Neb and John. Both who are absolutely pros at holding the tempo and dynamic changes right on course. And putting in double duty, Neb is the singer as well as the bass player. Swept off in the rhythmic world he and the other two create, he is a mixture of energy and precision. Devil Riding Shotgun’s delivery tonight was more relaxed than other times I’ve seen them, yet unmistakably serious. With the often thankless task of opening a show, DRS played it hard and tight. A musical force who have established their presence here. Go check these cats out..." Hopefully, there will be some feedback soon on our demo, which I've sent to a number of publications/e-zines/rock websites... <- Stun Guitar -> |

From DAREDEVIL MAGAZINE :
Albuquerque, New Mexico...three guys came together to play the Heavy-Rock. I mean this is something I heard before, but it´s a good receipe they have and so the music is pretty good...a healthy dose of Doom and slowed down, but really heavy Hard Rock riffs...I really enjoy music like this, cause you can just lay back and listen...at times the music remind me a bit of Spirit Caravan and Earthride with pretty nice done smokesoaked vocals. All in all this stuff is not bad and should attract every fan of Doom, you Stoners out there probably dig this stuff too. Ralf of DAREDEVIL scored it 5 out of a possible 7 headbanging smileys... home: www.myspace.com/devilridingshotgun <- Stun Guitar -> |

Our newest review from : PeaceDogMan.com
DEVIL RIDING SHOTGUN - Demo 2006 It’s hard to believe this band has not been together a year yet. There is definitely some killer chemistry going on here from this Albuquerque, New Mexican 3-piece. It’s not hard to tell that DRS are quite accomplished musicians. Especially impressive is guitarist Alan Edmonds control over the sounds coming out of his sixer. He plays as though he invented the wah and delay pedals. Bassist/vocalist Neb Fixico gets a pretty good mid range honk out what appears to be a Fender P or Jazz bass plucked finger style. Drummer John Stroh lays down the groove the way an experienced skinsman is expected to. Playing in a 3-guy group not too dissimilar to this crew, I have to say about my only complaint here is that there should be a little bit of backing vocal. Fixico’s voice is pretty strong on it’s own, but at least one of the other two band mates should be helping out with choruses and some key phrases. Some of this is reminiscent of SKIN YARD and ALICE IN CHAINS better moments. I would say give these guys another few months and they would be ready for a label. Hell, what they already have sounds better to me than quite a few of these bands who have been around way longer and have established labels providing them some help. - Death Metal Dougman OFFICIAL SITE: www.myspace.com/devilridingshotgun Wow. What can we do but say thanks & try to live up to that... <- Stun Guitar -> |

Our latest review is from stonerrock.com.
Devil Riding Shotgun – Self Titled Demo (2006) Review by John Pegoraro (StonerRock.com) Self released Release date: 2006 Devil Riding Shotgun, a three-piece from Albuquerque, New Mexico, straddles the line between old school doom and straightforward hard rock. It’s a good mix, as you get the heaviness of the former with the foot-tapping qualities of the latter. “Who Am I,” “So Perfect,” “Walk,” and “I Don’t Care” all have some killer grooves to ‘em. I’m torn between “So Perfect” and “I Don’t Care” as the best of the four; I think in the end I’ll go with the last song, as they up the heavy factor with some nasty riffing and singing. Fitting for their locale, the overall sound of this four-song EP is arid and earthy. What detracts, though, is that the vocals have the same qualities, and that sometimes comes across as a little too flat. But for a band that’s only been around for a year, this is a hell of a first impression. Not bad - we'll take it! <- Stun Guitar -> |

Here's our demo's larest review from Sleazegrinder!
DEVIL RIDING SHOTGUN Demo Devil Riding Shotgun _________________________________________________ First-ever demo from a trio of Albuquerque desperados who formed last October and recorded this a mere two months later. That’s not a lot of time to hone your chops enough to send ‘em out into the ether, but these fellas, they got drive. Their sound is gutmeat n’ taters Southern fried riff n’ roll, fancied-up quite a bit by the flying fingers of showboating guit slinger, Alan Edmonds. The cat has obviously got talent to spare, but he tends to overplay on easy, greasy choogles like “I Don’t Care” and “Who Am I”, outshining his thrashing, bashing pardners. That’s not a problem in more florid genres, but this is puke-at-the-picnic rebel rouser stuff, and it’s supposed to sound tighted and united, ya know? They’ll figure it out, I’m sure, but in the meantime, check these growlers out if ya dig COC, Brand New Sin, Black Label Society, alla that. PS: I really dig the simple, cartoony cover a lot. The background is tweed. You don’t see a lot of tweed in rock n’ roll these days. _______________________________________________________ -Sleazegrinder <- Stun Guitar -> |

you guys have gotten some great reviews!! hell yeah!! did you send entire press kits or just cds? how did you find out where to send them to?
|

![]() |
I listed a bunch of addresses here.
We just sent CDs with a one-paragraph blurb about us - no real presskit or anything. Probably wouldn't hurt to send one anyway, but since we don't have one, we didn't. <- Stun Guitar -> |

New axe = excellent! I'll be using her for all the dropped C material.
When playing next? Not until June. We're currently busy working on 6 new songs. How'd we find out we were reviewed? By checking the pubs/websites we'd sent demos to & googling our band name. <- Stun Guitar -> |

Well, ya gotta take the bad with the good - Keith from The Metal Observer absolutely HATED our demo. Good luck with those hemorrhoids, dude...
Devil Riding Shotgun - s/t (3/10) - USA - 2006 Genre: Stoner Rock Label: Self-production Playing time: 15:21 Band homepage: Devil Riding Shotgun Tracklist: Who Am I? So Perfect Walk I Don’t Care A few weeks ago I reviewed an album by SCOFF, a competent and fun German Stoner Rock band. Along comes DEVIL RIDING SHOTGUN and answers the question “What would happen if SCOFF sucked?” DRS formed about a year ago, in mid-2005, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This demo contains unmastered material the band calls “dynamic” and claims “[embraces] a freedom from stylistic constraints.” I’m feeling generous, so I’ll give them the last one, though they’re pretty comfortably operating in the Stoner Rock field on the slower end of the spectrum. By dynamic? The hell they are. The opening seconds of “Who Am I?” is a perfect example of the totality of this band—a potentially interesting guitar riff is ruined through constant repetition, the song goes nowhere and then the vocals kill any flow we might have had without actually contributing anything. I seriously dislike the song “So Perfect”—I can’t even get a minute through without wanting to smash my CD player. “So Perfect” is perhaps the longest 3:24 known to man—it slows time so much I found myself completing tasks before I’d even thought of them. But at what cost? “Walk” is the most interesting song on the album, with some nice guitar work by Alan Edmonds, but even that gets old after a while and the rest of the band is doing absolutely nothing interesting. “I Don’t Care” has a slight bit of Doom in its spine, but takes Doom’s worst aspects to make a shuddering song the audio equivalent of lengthy dental surgery. Really, if you avoid “Devil Riding Shotgun,” you’ll be much happier for it. Then again, everybody else who’s reviewed this demo has given it pretty good marks, so… (Online May 23, 2006) <- Stun Guitar -> |

At least he didn't call it a shit sandwich. The only thing that bothers me about this review is that he didn't smash his cd player.

Thanks again for those review links guys. We just got our CD and will be sending it out for reviews as well. |

Me too. Seriously though, if we motivated someone to actually smash their cd player, that would be cool. Luddites unite! "Well, are you gonna pull those pistols or whistle dixie?" --Josey Wales |
