The next Shoulder Voices Extravaganza will be at Burt's Tiki Lounge. It will be a celebration of our favorite local personality, Little Bobby! He's decided to release a CD of his material, both from Shoulder Voices recordings as well as from his solo work. Committed to lo-fi, DIY, and the spirit of the psychedelic freak-out, his recordings are a beautiful mess of humor, absurdity, and the ever present topic of unrequited love (ahhh, poor bobby...). The recordings range from the 6 years he's been in Albuquerque, consequently tracing the many relationships and drug experiences through that time. If it is possible to open your mind and drop some of your prejudices, you may truly "get" the depth and complexity of this man, but if not you risk being completely offended, or worse, annoyed. The title of the show "Saucerful of Little Bobby" hints, in no veiled terms, his love for Pink Floyd and our covering of a few of their tunes for this show. The expected date for the show is Saturday, October 27. The show will also feature only Little Bobby songs, so I'll finally get the back-seat role in the band for which I've always been pushing. Line-up will be updated when we've got a confirmation from the other bands. Everyone in attendance will get a free CD that has a bar code, art work and is professionally done, and also that night everyone will get a CD-R of all the material that did not make the cut for the official release.
I don't have the energy for a long review, but both U7D and Black Maria were great. The Shoulder Voices perhaps had their worst set ever. I think we're heading for a record of unintentionally bad shows in a row. This time I will not give details, but will blame most of it on my cheap gear fucking up through out the night, consequently throwing everyone else off balance. Thanks to everyone that attended and to everyone that played and Burt's for having us play. We still have CDs, so if you want a Little Bobby 'Sound of Letting Go' let us know here or on our myspace page and well arrange getting one to you.
