As if anyone was wondering what was happening in the world of the Shoulder Voices, I shall describe the quiet-tude that is our current state. The last gig seemed to be one in a long line of gigs that didn't "work". When we open up on stage with our "un-pro" gear and improvise and "put it all out there", we tend to fall on our faces at least a few times, and because of that our shows never go off as well as we would like to have it go. There is a constant pull, mostly on my part, to not have this band be a "traditional" band process, with practices that polish specific songs with exact changes. We would like to change the process and thinking of what a band should be and should do, but resources and habits have us return to weekly practices and songs that we practice over and over. There is also the emotional side to the band, with those that write the songs going through extreme highs and lows with various 'successes" and "failures", and shows, as a whole, are generally demoralizing to our sensitive natures. The voices, however, are constantly in our heads and are not silent, but they have not found that direct path from their pure source to our very imperfect hands and mouths and brains, but they are there, shaking us out of dreams, distracting us as we talk to customers in our service jobs, and in the evenings calling us to submit to their feverish pull to touch an instrument, just for one song, and on, and on...
What lies next for this band, and for its members, is unknown, but it will remain an entity that will appear at the occasional gig and try (in our ways) to present music as we hear it sung by those small, haunting voices inside ourselves, and I shall keep this forum updated as things happen, change, or stay the same. Musk out.
