Another great night at The Songwriters Open Mic!
E. Christina Herr & Wild Frontier opened with, of course, the haunting “Wild Frontier” and rocked with “Sidewinder”. Both examples of Christina’s Western Gothic style. Jon Wolfe showed up with a couple of amazing instrumentals. Very cool and very electric. Attempts, he said, at “positive” songwriting by Mike Skehivi. Strong lyrics about complicated relationships…and fun. Then the dark side, as Dean Maier said. The original, “Normalville” by this classically trained guitarist. The first fiddle at The Songwriters Open Mic. David and The Sattvic Singers did a piece by Lucinda Williams, then an original with harmonium accompaniment. One of our “original” family members, Meredith Wilder, was there. Super lyrics with that wonderful angelic voice…and without a net! The man in black did blues. It’s always good to see David Peters and hear his work. Jordan Bodherene sang about a cat. Nice images with that song. A three piece band, Bartender 4 Mayor was next. Watch these guys, they’re really good. Yet another guitar instrumental, this time by Charlie Wilson. It’s amazing to see him effortlessly cover six frets comping chords. Our new bassist, Bryan Wenzel, played a salute to his brother in Afghanistan. Then did an original with two-handed fretting, a sight to behold. And Michael Barker with his second appearance EVER!. Great song about the futility of war then a scary one about looking in the mirror. E. Christina Herr & Wild Frontier closed out with “Showdown”, (featuring Jon Wolfe on lead), a “Devil Winds”, by request.
