Heard Black Maria for the first time last night at Burt's, and I'm glad I did. The band consists of two guitars, bass, drums, and vocals. Most of the songs in their set reminded me of old-school metal (Sabbath, Deep Purple, etc.) with extremely catchy and incredibly heavy riffs. They drew a very big crowd for a Tuesday night (it really felt like a Friday there), who all seemed to be rockin' out with the band.

I'd say the only problem with the show was that it was at times almost impossible to hear the drums over the guitars and bass. I imagine when the drums are mic-ed up and put through a good PA, this isn't a problem. To a lesser extent, the same issue was there regarding the vocals (hard to hear over the amps).

In short, these guys rocked my face off and I imagine are even better in larger settings with a more powerful PA (like the Launchpad).

p.s. - Wish I could write a more informed/detailed review with comments on specific songs, etc., but this is the first time I've heard them.

Actually, there's a much better review of that particular show in the current Alibi.
