While my associate and bandmate was hob-nobing with the hip and the beautiful at the Stove, (No diss to Fando. The Day Brothers have always been a favorite of my band and myself for all the right reasons! Besides, I was too incapacitated to make the cruise from Burt’s Tiki Lounge to the Stove) I made my way to Burt’s for Sirhan Sirhan and Prize Country.

Hailing form San Diego, Sirhan Sirhan are a power trio with a sound that gives the impression of a lager band. In fact first impressions are that of a mid to late eighties Black Flag. You know, the version that featured both Greg Ginn and Dez on guitars. Sirhan Sirhan had the power, intensity, tone and heaviness. A short but powerful set had me wanting more and heading over to check out their merch and stock up.

Touring with Sirhan Sirhan, Portland OR.’s Prize Country was next. I tried to check these guys out last year at an ill-fated gig at the Tavern. Prize Country calls themselves Rock/Post Punk. I call them fucking great. Their sound is also reminisant of some of the SST bands of years gone by. Minutemen, Saccharine Trust combined with a 13 Songs/Repeater era Fugazi, minus the hyper-serious social conscience. In fact Prize Country is as much fun to watch as they are to listen to. Road-tight and bouncing all over the place, the energy and antics were just what I needed to make it feel like Friday night. Like Sirhan Sirhan, Prize Country’s set ended before I was ready for them to. Great music, great guys and a great way to start the weekend. Perhaps not as hip as partying at The Stove, but what the fuck! I ended up watching the sunrise while doing shots and misbehaving with Rockin’ Rosa and my new pals Sirhan Sirhan and Prize Country. Thanks to both bands for a solid night of Rock and thanks to Rockin’ Rosa, The Stone Cold Fox for making fun of my tired-ass excuses and getting me out and about to this gig.

Yea, that show was surprisingly underattended. You forgot to mention the 70s rockers, Lonely H! I thoroughly enjoyed their skynyrd posturings. And the bass player had some of the best facial expressions ever.

Whoops!
My face is red. I meant to menion Lonely H as well as you lovlies, Zac. (that's what I get trying to post early on a Monday!) I would hazard a guess that the sparse crowd had to do with the Ralli's, Launchpad benefit and the gig at the Stove. But yeah...

After Prize Country Lonely H, from Port Angeles Washington, hit the stage with a heavy 1970's look and vibe. Complete with a gigantic, electric "H" hanging above them. Keyboard driven, Classic Rock style without the usual post Classic Rock nod to Punk that many bands of this style seem to have. Armed with fake I.D.s (these guys are less than a year out of High School) and a head full of dreams, Lonely H sounded like Queen meets Meatloaf. Both great bands, but neither is really my bag. Seeing these youngsters all fresh scrubed, costumed and full of their interpertation of whatever their influences are, left me feeling a cross between "These guys are trying too hard' and "These guys have had way too many girls telling them how great they are.". Especially after seeing two more "raw" bands tear it up, I was more inclined to check out the sidewalk action.

Of course Zac, Tim, Jill and Juliet tore it up as only the Foxx do! Well worth returning from the sidewalk. The folks that stuck it out this long were treated to an energetic, Rocking set from one Albuquerque's best sounding and best looking bands. Unlike Lonely H, our beloved Foxx look more than natural in their killer, flashy duds. Great people, a great band and oh so easy on the eyes. Viva la Foxx!
