Eh, there was a raw-sounding death/black metal band, and I guess they didn't appeal much to fans of the others (Astray, WotL, 7of9). Actually, I kind of enjoyed them, but I gotta admit, when I turned around after one of their At The Gates covers, I was surprised at how many people had disappeared. I bet if it had been a deathier type of show (End to End or Simfonik Plague or someone like that) the visiting band would have fit right in.

I've never heard long time dead but Moray and Big Lips are both definately not metal...might be an interesting one.

Variety on bills is good...I agree, Mike. But, there has to be at least some similarity between bands. For example, you guys and Anatung are not exactly alike, but Anatung is at least a slightly heavier, rockin band. It does not work when they put an indie/pop band and a metal band on the same bill...they're just too different in my opinion.

You nailed it on the head-it's the audience that often can't handle variety. Bands enjoy playing with bands from different genres (it's fun to play with similar bands, but not all the time), but crowds get impatient and closed-minded when something different comes on after their fav band.

well as it goes....we all had a grand time...i quite enjoyed the band before us....need a bass player then they would have a full sound...but i was...but it was disappointing to have the house clear out before our set...it happens and i was venting...but when booking shows...veriety is good to a degree...i concur that shows should be to entertain thw audience as a whole...weve been booked on heavy nights where we felt like the odd man out...but we have fun regardless...and thats all that matters really....the bands we have played with are always good...and we love playing with bands we havent played with previously....but as always....rock on yall...see ya at the next show!!!!! good times!!!!!! sean return of 7of9sean@sevenof9.com

I agree that Variety is the spice of life but I think when a venue books bands they need to be of like genre. We were out of place at that show although we were a last minute call becuase one band cancelled but we did have a good time. One thing Id like to bring up is When they called us to fill in the slot 1 week before I immediately flyered that place as well as some of the music stores etc as well as the usual e mails we send out. But I failed to see any flyers promoting the concert other than ours. I dont know if the other bands bothered to make flyers or what but I was a little dissapointed at the lack there of. I do know that Eric generally books bands a month before if so I cant imagine why there were no previous flyers up. Maybe I'll start a new thread on promoting Id like to se your thougts on this doods.
