This'll be short. It's early and my ears are still ringing!
Antigone, out of El Paso, opened with some mind bending guitar work, and some TIGHT bas/drum/guitar riffs. First time i've ever seen them. It won't be the last. Burque's own Dead on Point Five followed with their own, blistering set. If they hadn't said so, I would never have known they were still breaking in a new drummer. Awesome, as always. Top Dead Celebrity, from SLC(!?!) was up next. I can't give too many specifics, as I was setting up gear at the side of the stage for our set, but they had me, and the rest of the room, rocking out. They cut their set (too) short, as their singer's voice was giving out on him. Hope to catch them again, soon, when I can hear/listen to more. (As an aside, SLC has some great heavy rock acts lately. Maybe time for a visit there?) We(Devil Riding Shotgun) were up last. Modesty precludes me saying too much about it, except to say that the late night survivors who had been in the bar moved into the back where we were playing before the end of our set. Saw some head bobbing/banging going on. If htey had as much fun as we did, a pleasant time was had by all. On a personal note, Thanks to Alan and Neb for bringing me aboard, and consistently rocking the house! dire |

Yeah, good times.
Great show on the part of all the bands - Antigone (Tool meets Bebop Deluxe), Dead on Point 5 (now back to a hard driving trio - they ended with a cover of Sailin' On by the Bad Brains, which prompted me to pull out my Roir Sessions CD the following day), and Top Dead Celebrity (whose singer toughed it out through sickness to rock a strong set of Desert Rock that was actually from the desert - Salt Lake City - instead of Sweden or Japan, which seems to be the norm these days). It was great to play the Atomic again. Neb's been all fired up lately, writing new material faster than I can learn it, and with Jon in the drum throne, the DRS bus is picking up momentum. Lotta cool folks in effect, and I also got to meet two peeps from Rocksquawk after the show - The Great Varelli and listentoblacksabbath, 2/3 of 668 (about 445, give or take). Cheers, gentlemen, and to everyone else who showed up! ...DooM... |
