Systemic got robbed last night! They rocked the hell out of those other bands. First of all, two of the other bands were Cover Bands! Gimme a break, they shouldn't have even been in comparison w/ Systemic. Systemic, you guys played your heart out last night! There obviously was something going on with the judging on that one! Thanks for the Great Show, we know who the true winners are!
Yes, How dare Danny Winn and the Earthlings be better than systemic, or any other band for that matter.

Mike, I definitely agree w/ you, Danny Winn and the Earthlings are a great band; they are awesome musicians and great guys too! I just thought w/ the crowd's response; you guys had it in the bag! But keep on rockin' and I look forward to seein' you on the 2nd!!
Yeah, I thought Danni Winn and the Earthlings were quite good. After I heard them, I figured it would come down to them vs Systemic.
What disappointed me was that the cover bands came out ahead. Even as cover bands, I didn't think either one was particularly impressive, certainly not the in same league as Systemic or DW&tE. That just didn't make sense.
But weren't 2nd and 3rd prizes recording time? Systemic doesn't need that, so maybe the judges factored that into the decision. Just a conspiracy theory... ;-)

Clarification: Sid from the Edge is not Sid Garcia, Million Year Panic band.
Been there Mike. When I was in Paris Blue, we lost to a three piece loverboy rip-off band in Pueblo, CO. Red leather jackets and untied white tennis shoes...Good Times.
It has pretty much been my experience that every battle of the bands is a popularity contest, regardless of where it is held.

Okay here's a suggestion for anyone who really cares, instead of battle of the bands, why aren't there Battles of The Musicians? Drum Offs, Best Bassist, Best Lead Guitar, etc. Because lets face it, there are a LOT of great musicians around here, but not many really good bands!
I don't think that kind of thing works either, I mean if you put Brightcarver and Systemic2001 in the same room and after they played for 10 minutes each or whatever, how could you judge?
They are both technically good guitar players, yet they are two totally differents styles. I mean does that make Sys a better guitar player because he does the fast and furious metal stuff, or Carver, who is probably the best melodic guitar player that I know.

Break it up into groups or styles. Rhythym, Lead, etc. then possibly an overall. Don't ask me, I just came up with the idea, someone else can figure out the details
A good band consists of good musicians who can create original sounds that co mingle with each other nicely to create something a bit different that you don't hear every single day. That can get onstage and grab the crowd by the balls and hold them for the better part of 2-3hrs, through music and stage presence instead of antics and bitching. I don't pick one band because there are too many to choose from. And I don't choose one style, because thats too limited.
Never said there were no good bands, but there were not many.

I think the point that she was trying to make was that there are a ton of good musicians, but only about 300 lbs. of good bands. The numbers just don't add up.......Is that what you meant Kat?

I got to GSC too late, only saw the last 2 bands. I'd been at the Boson show, which was a windstorm from Hell but Tom Scholtz put on a whole tapping display. The band has gotten some amazonian blonde bassist, she had most of the attention onstage.
Sorry you guys didn't win, and I gotta agree that covers shouldn't be allowed in that kinda deal. Maybe run 'em in different categories....

Pretty much. I don't disagree there are original bands in NM, I don't disagree that there are good bands in NM. It was a suggestion to first off break out of the popularity contest"battle of bands", and in the long term effect it could bring more people out to shows, if a battle of musicians was promoted well. In the battle, all contestants would still be representing their bands. I was just thinking it would be something a bit different.
Didn't mean to seem like I got my panties in a bunch or anything
