Damn, I was just expecting your average joe shmoe 'I have been in big bands and now this is MY project' band....oooooohhhh no, if you were there you know what I am talking about...I wonder if anyone thereknew what they were about to hear?
The music comes up slow with a groove (was that bass player into his groove or what?), a heavy cream groove that sucks you in...then here comes Brant with poetic justice spat in your face...Detriot style, am I wrong? I can't believe he was a drummer, that dude was spitting out his own version of 'slo-mojo hendrix' that was so captivating and 'sound intoxicating' it left you wondering....
Holding down the heavy groove in the back came some jazz fusion (if you will) oriented drumming that just bound the whole show together...I loved how he had his floor tom so low down...and did anyone catch the size of that ride? I was just having a conversation with Brent of Black Maria about the niceness of those large ride cymbols when whammo there it was sounding ssssoooooooo SH-WWEEEEEEEEET..this was not your run of the mill come through town bands...these dudes were tight, together and just plain out awesome. I had wished there were more people there to support them, but I guess the night before Burt's was packed and possibly those people were re-cooping. I hate puting 'something' like this into an "ERA" (70's rock) category so I won't...but if you need to understand the deepness (heaviness=Can you dig it brutha?) then categorize it as that...comprende? Wish you were there... Frown

I was expecting the show to be a LOT mellower, fearing that Brant might even take the stage with an acoustic guitar... but no! THEY FUCKING ROCKED! But not so loud that you go home with a headache. Vocals came thru clear and the sound was excellent. Proof it doesn't have to be super loud to be HEAVY. WOW Brant is a badassmother on the guitar with his funky syncopated muted plucks and catchy blues riffs. It was the best show I've seen in a while. The drummer was sick as well, but what would you expect from someone playing with Brant Bjork?

Whoever's idea it was to blast Journey on the jukebox at 1pm when the band was ready and willing to play an encore should be crucified.
