Partial Sin was out last night littering the town and decided to stop into the Launchpad to check out Left Brain. We saw a couple warm up bands...didn't catch their names because I was busy discussing ethnopharmacology with Dr. Thunda. I caught Marsupius who did a wicked experimental set. They didn't have a guitarist, but a wicked bassist. Good shit.
Left Brain didn't get to take the stage until around 12:30, but when they did it was hellacious. My first duty was to buy a shot of MacGregor for the band. I have undertaken a mission to get the Lefties drunk and stumbling whenever I can so they will be less of a threat. I have yet to succeed, although Thunda did look slightly sour-faced after he slammed down the liquid gold. Unfortunately he did not succomb to my attempts... (Hey, this guy puts MacGregor in with his cheerios, and injects it thru an IV in his sleep).
Even though I did not succeed in summoning on stage projectile-vomitting, I thought the show kicked ass. Left Brain reminds me of a Pantera/Pink Floyd/Fear Factory hybrid. Fuck yeah fellas! Rock on.
Yeah, we got on super late. The sound guy was having a lot of issues with the monitors so that delayed things a little. He is new and did a great job dealing with all the problems and our egos. SO TIP YOUR SOUND GUYS!
I finally took that shot Bart graciously gave me after we got done playing. I’ve had worse shots from my grandma guys come on!!! Okay, yeah I lie.. it was rowdy! Thanks for coming out fellas and to all who stuck around.
I’d also like to mention that Danny Trejo made it out to our show with a entourage of sexy ladies. You might know Danny as the scary looking vato from such great movies as, Desperado, From Dusk Till Dawn and Con Air, among countless other films. He is a very nice and humble man and took pictures, hung out, drank, danced and talked to everyone.
I thought the shot was pretty good- almost too good to be MacGregor.
It would probably take a lot of hard work to get us projectiling on stage. Maybe one of these days. Probably the best way to spice up a show would be to get Steve drunk and see how bad we train wreck every song.
It was cool catching you guys at the LP.
Marsupius put on a great show and they are cool guys. Pretty unique sound. I think the bass player and drummer were from an older Alb band called Mother.
After Pill was a sort of poppy funky sounding band. Kind of reminded me of Sugar Ray meets Primus with a bit of Old Man Shattered. Sick bass player in that band.
All of these talented bassists make me feel a bit of pressure to start using more than just a few notes on my B string.
