I spoke to a friend that said the sound was bad, the place was freezing and The Shins were dull and lifeless? Is that accurate or did someone have a different experience?

the sound really sucks there, and the shins were a bit more tepid than i thought they would be live. lowlights were good, as always.

The sound was as good as could be expected at the El Rey. The Shins were great. Dull and Lifeless? Dave practically fell off the stage during some of the solos he was so into it. There was nothing dull about it, sorry. Plus, if you want a big "show" with baloons and confetti and lasers, then go see the Flaming Lips. The Shins have always been more about the music being good. They were in top form.

It was a DAMN good show, and they played a kick ass version of "Gone for Good", man I love that song! Actually, the sound wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Hey, for $25 in a small venue, three great bands, hell I don’t really see a reason to complain.

Oh, wait, I was complaining to Noisemaker posing as a Guitarist (Dave) that the Cherry Tempo hasn’t put out there new album yet. Other then that I really didn’t complain. Oh, wait, it was cold in that line, and I should have had a few more beers before the show. Actually, my complaints have nothing to do with the show…uhhhhh…I guess I’ll shut up now.

Hey, it's not my fault!

So are there any objective opinions, I have a feeling this one may be a bit of a personal one.

Of course it's subjective, I don't see how my opinion on this couldn't be Wink I thought it was a good show, I'll just leave it at that.

Doesn't buying a ticket and going to a show rule out objectivity??

So 2 really great shows on a Tuesday night, that were absolutely packed, and next door to each other. The whole night had a great vibe to it......can't ask for more than that.

Well I guess it is impossible to for anyone to be objective about anything, but an opionion from someone who doesn't have family in the band is what I was seeking. sheesh... Razz

i was gonna join in on the bashing and shit talking and general jealosy that was starting to brew, but as i was leaving the rock show at launchy, dave h. reconized me and was all sweet and bro like. so even though i didn't go to the shins, they are the best band ever and played the best set ever. joe anderson on the other hand gave me the stink eye like a jealous bitch the whole time dave and i were bonding. so i left.

well, in response to wonder kid's comments. Your friend was completely wrong. In my humble opinion, I thought The Shins were far from "dull and lifeless". Those guys had tons of energy! The sound was probably not as good as the Sunshine show but as far as having fun and playing to the crowd, they did great!

Didn't he see Dave Hernadez bouncing around as if he were still in Scared of Chaka? Playing the guitar behind his head, doing monitor balancing acts. That was radical! If he missed that he must of been in the back of the "under 21" balcony crowd. That was not a smart move on the part of the El Rey but other than that it was a rockin' show.

I mean, it's not as if he went to a Gwar show, what was he expecting??...who is this guy and why does he get cold in a room with 800 people?
