Your Music Is In Odd Time Signatures

(I’m writing this while absorbing Devil Riding Shotgun's new single. It makes me feel like stealing a car and cranking this song REALLY REALLY LOUD.)

I’d like to start this off by saying the new sound guy (I forgot his name) at Atomic Cantina is fucking really good. He made sure to test all the bands sound, mic and DI the guitars and utilize the house sound system while still goofing around. Thus, making the bands sound incredible!

Very fun and entertaining Night! Atomic Cantina and Burt's Tiki Lounge were slamming with great music.

A big thanks to Marsupious for filling in for the Boston Band. You guys are crazy!

Lots and Lots of people… Left Brain and SuperGiant fans are the best!

I was able to only catch 2 bands. Simfonik Plague’s complicated music makes me want to practice more because those dudes are sick with their shit. They are very critical on themselves and it shows in the music. Technical heavy hitting metal madness.

SuperGaint has a massive following.. I swear, for every 1 Left Brain fan there must have been 2.5 SuperGiant fans.. So you can get an idea of how full that place was. But, I’m just glad we got to finally play a show without someone going to jail or going on injured reserve.

Yeah, we suck. It was very cool to see so many friends down there. When Darkness Falls, Torture Victim and Ground Beneath were in attendance, as was the Tireless Neck himself, Mr. Sloppy. This was the first time I had seen RGTH, and damn, they killed it. Real accessible, but with enough serious musicality to keep things poppin'. I really dug their 2nd or 3rd tune, the one with the real long single-stroke roll all over the drumkit. The chords on top of that gave me chills. U7D was awesome, no surprise there. And any show where a guitar is actually broken is a show worth seeing. We had a blast, and surprisingly fewer people wlked out on us than I expected. Cheers, we love you all.

Neb & I managed to make it to the AC after band practice, missing Marsupius (Cool name, tho), and the beginning of Left Brain's set. Place was pretty packed. What I saw/heard of the LB performance was strong; the sound was tits, and the audience was enthusiastic. The new song also sounds promising.

SuperGiant also brought it (as usual), and I got to see/hear Jeremy's new SG - nice axe! Again, the sound was excellent, and SuperGiant, always working the "vibe" angle, darkened the stage and added a few psychedelic touches to create some atmosphere. Their older material was spot-on, and the newer stuff is ripe for recording, which I understand will be happening soon.

Sorry I missed all the happenings next door, but I did hear a piece of Unit 7 Drainage as my brother and I were enjoying a smoke across the street. Burt's looked pretty packed, too.

Anyway, 'twas a fine (tho frosty) Friday night, and I had a good time despite having to elude the various roadblocks in the area, both on the way to and home from the club.

Difinitely some sneakiness going on by APD. Luckily everyone was good about telling the bar attendees and music lovers about the road blocks. I hope everyone made it home safe!

Big thanks to Left Brain for promoting the shit out of this show and getting lots of heads thru the door. These guys are one of the hardest working bands out there and it shows. It was a pleasure to rock with you gentlemen. I met tons of new peeps and lots of people saw SuperGiant for the first time which is always good. Stew is the sound man and he is rad to work with... great sense of humor and he really takes the sound seriously. If he would just quit telling me to fucking turn down I would be ok with him Smile

I'm really looking forward to hearing this new Devil Riding Shotgun material. Hopefully they can wrap it up soon so we can get our asses back into Sight 16 (sid?????) .... Honestly we probably wont be recording until mid to late summer. By then we should have the $$$ saved and the songs ready to do it right. We've got about 6 new songs that we still haven't played out because they're still slow-simmering on the back burner.

yep, yep, friday night kicked ass. so many bands, so little time!

out of six i only caught two on film (film? really? i didn't use any film...), but heard marsupius, simfonik plague, the left brain, unit 7 drain, and supergiant. i cut out early (my apologies supergiant), because my newly 21 year old brother made it out and did it up. it's just as well that i was home before two, given the road blocks and the fact that i was on the shortcut road straight to perdition (i prefer the scenic route). anyway, what a fucking night! i fell asleep with my ears ringing and my brain a happy sludge of good music.

piccies:

for some reason the light at burt's was killing me...

and then something weird happened...

aaron just kind of...

disappeared!

so then i went to the atomic:

marsupius kicks ass

dr. thunda doin something fancy

steve on his throne

and john rocking off his own face. typical.

Friday night was the first time I ever had a coctail waitress at AC, and this was impressive. It usually takes at least 10 minutes to get a drink on a Friday night, but she was on her shit.

I caught Left Brain who rocked...Dr. Thunda's hair is getting a little longer and he's got the "Mushroom Tip" headbanging style going on.

Supergiant kicked ass. Supergiant kicked ass. did I mention that Supergiant kicked ass?

I'd also like to send a big shot out to those friendly lesbians who visited the us toward the end of the night. Good stuff.
