What do you get when you take two well-seasoned local pros, add a solid bass player with a monster rig and a few sprinkles of cast iron balls? my favorite local band! Sandia Man owned the fucking stage last night and I'll be damned if I ever have to follow them again! Hate Planet showed awesome potential and a full set of wicked songs. Kudos to Sven for pullin' double duty with no drop off in energy! can't wait to do it again fellas!

Serious thanks to all who came out. One of the better crowds I've seen at Burt's. I second the sentiment about Project: Hate Planet. Tight, well-crafted, well-rehearsed tunes, lots o' energy. Five Minute Sin were no slouches. A bunch of new tunes, and again, high energy. The Johnny Cash encore with the harp player was icing on the cake! I assume "Well-seasoned" is a euphemism for "Old men", but I'll take compliments where I can get them. If it looks like we're into what we do, it's because we are. We play exactly what we like to play, and if, as it appears, others dig it, too, well, that's gratifying. Thanks again to all who played, special recognition to Sven, and to all who came to listen. We'll definitely do it again, soon!

Thanks you guys! Besides the annoying buzz in my amp(I'm concluding it was a power issue because it sounds fine at home) we had a great time. Sandia Man was super heavy and super loud just the way I like it. The strobe light was crackin me up! Sven did great playing 2 sets in a row. Five Minute Sin was awesome! Great energy and super tight. Agreed, the Johnny Cash encore was excellent! Thanks again for havin us and thanks to all who came out!

And with all bands having posted now, the circle jerk is complete. POW! But seriously, it was a great time with great tunes, and hopefully at some point, the wonderful & talented CC California will save this thread from full-on sausage party-ness & post some of those photos she was snappin'! Thanks to Five Minute Sin for setting up the show and to Project: Hate Planet, to Jon & Sven, & to everyone who attended. Thanks also to Burt's & to Miles for the strobe prank and his usual excellent job on the house sound. Finally, thanks to the kamikaze driver who LOUDLY took out the light pole at Gold & 4th for providing loadout entertainment while somehow not killing any bystanders in the process. \m/DooM\m/

I was drunk enough to totally miss it, but... I am told some dude pulled out a harmonica, found a live mic sitting on top of the PA and started to play along during the Cash tribute. I heard something real blues harp like coming thru the monitor, but I thought it was Voodoo pulling off some cool guitar sound... Anyway... I'm wondering if that guy just happened to have an 'E' harp on him or if he had a whole pocket full of harps in different keys... Regardless... I love that shit. That's happened twice now. Last time it was Jeremy from Poor Man's Ferrari...

SANDIA MAN almost zipped right passed my radar, until I was deservedly scolded right here on Rocksquawk by none other than Racer X, who basically told me that I needed to pull my head out of my ass and take notice! So I decided I owed them a visit -- like quick -- at their very next show. Turns out that the former thundermaker of metal messiahs Devil Riding Shotgun has shown up with a clutch of heavy music for SANDIA MAN. It’s been awhile since I had heard from this bulletproof bellower, but lemme tell ya, the fucker hasn’t lost an ounce of his superpowers or his uniquely macho swagger. These are some serious musicians! With the addition of drummer Jon (who sported a red kilt that night!) and bassist, Steve “Sven”, SANDIA MAN rises from the collective unconscious of ten-thousand generations of humanity (their words, not mine), and they’re gonna drag your sorry ass right down to the eternally flowing river of rock n roll and dunk your head into a sludgy sea of feedback drenched metal until you are truly saved and sanctified. And they obviously don’t give a fuck whether you know how to swim through it or not. Powerful. Finally got to see Five Minute Sin! I don’t have a clue what their names are and their myspace page doesn’t help either – Zen, Voodoo, Diamond, and Bartimus – what the hell? And it doesn’t even say who plays what, but the singer has a remarkably soulful voice, the drummer is a trip to watch (what a blast), I love that bassist, and couldn’t stop watching their lead guitarist make some beautiful music on that teeny guitar (Damn, that guy is huge! He reminds me of Peter Steele, who at one time was the only reason I ever sought out an issue of PlayGirl). All of these guys have mastered their instruments, but there’s a subtle layer of melancholy to these guys that adds a wealth of depth to a genre (rock, metal, alternative) that by design, is supposed to be as shallow as their lead guitarist’s cheekbones, and it really makes them stand out from the rest. Their songs are infectious, possibly addictive, and the execution is flawless. Also, that was the best damn cover of Cash I ever heard. There's a photo of that harp player in the Five Minute Sin pics. Excellent Show! Don't know if you guys are into black and white photos, but I really like that b/w video of yours, so I made some for you (new bands always get preferential treatment because they need pics the most). You can get the full size/full color pics at the above link. Took a few shots of the crowd. Man, just a bunch of people I've never seen before, and only 2 familiar faces - Sloppy and Brian Banks. "...Racer X, who basically told me that I needed to pull my head out of my ass and take notice!" Wow, C.C. - the pics are great - thanks so much for checking us out and taking them! You did a helluva lot of work that night when you could have been relaxing, and we truly appreciate it and your positive comments. You rock!! \m/ I must admit I was hoping there weren't any upskirt shots that displayed Jon's bagpipes, and there weren't - Whew! \m/DooM\m/

C.C.- I didn't even know that we had this song posted. It's a track from our upcoming (unreleased) album. In fact it's so new, that the other fellas in the band haven't realized that the track is called "Mourning Star". sheesh
