It was quite fun! I do believe things could have gone better, but the problems that existed were out of anyones hands and were just minor inconveniences. Im definitely down for it next year. Lets have it off base so everyone can come.
Did more people show up? I had to leave kind of early. Sorry i missed all you bands i didnt see.

The show still was fun... It was a private party for all the bands... Too bad other bands couldn't stick around, and show some love... But either way, mechanical malfuctions are always out of our hands, and all the bands handled them well... Cheers to everyone....
We’d like to start off by thanking Winterlock for not only putting the show together but also taking care of and going out of their way for all the bands needs. Beer Supplies especially after the Club Employees vacated the premises with the alcohol surpluses.
This show turned out to be a V.I.P. concert for Albuquerque’s bands, friends and new fans. We got to see many of the local talent play for the first time. (i.e. Devil Riding Shotgun, Hit By a Bus and When Darkness Falls) Everyone, in spite of all the technical difficulties (i.e. Power Outages, Busted Cables, Tuning Issues, Unstable Mic Lines and SPRINKERS) worked together to prevail over all the issues.
The best part was that everyone who stayed drank, partied and learned more about each other while enjoying the remaining bands sets. Much respect to all the bands. Again, we had a great time and we look forward to the next one.
The best part was showing up at the gate with Left Brain, When Darkness Falls and Five Minute Sin. We kind of all showed up at the same time, and I think the guard got a kick out of the bands, Some of us weren't sober in the strictest sense of the word, and he actually said something to JohnnyLeftBrain about the odor of alcohol...TristanLeftBrain dropped the guard's pen and got yelled at(good-naturedly) by the guard for abusing gov't property. SimfonikLance kept dropping his license and when I asked him what he was doing, he said, "Spinning it, bro!" When Darkness Falls are are a big group of big, boisterous, good natured fellows and they always have an entourage of like 20. It was loud, and it kicked ass. It felt like we brought a little anarchy to the base(and that's not the only thing Ryan the SimfonikRoadie brought...hehe...) Gio: My daughter thought you were awesome. She's not used to seeing females onstage at many of our shows. One of the HBAB guys gave her a sticker and she's bugging me non-stop to add it to the truck, which we will tonight. Good show everyone! A pleasure to meet the almighty Devil Riding Shotgun! They kicked ass! Neb, the bassist/voxist looked as though he was trying to hump his amp like, through his bass...and he was producing some of the most amazing feedback I've heard in a while! Cheers to Winterlock for having us, and really, the fact that the sprinklers went on during our first song was pretty funny. Even the sprinklers at Kirtland hate us! Also thanks to WinterlockCliff for making sure that there was beer to drink after the beer tent went home. Even the fact that the bathrooms got locked about an hour before we went on didn't dampen our spirits, 'cause we just dampened the road behind my truck!! Anyways, cheers again!!!

Hell Yeah! Those guards were funny. My bassist's drivers lisence picture has a goofy smile and the guard asked him if he was (gestures to smoking a joint and takes a quick deep breath) we all laughed.
Yes DRS was very good. Damn their drummer is good. He looks like the average balding male american in his shorts and his bulls jersey but rips that drumset a new asshole with apocalyptic grooves. That man is a rock god!
Yes, DRS had a great time. A big Thank YOu to Winterlock Geoff for putting this together. My apologies to Five Minute Sin, Simfonik Plague and Winterlock for not being able to catch their performances (two kids..) I'll make it up to you guys Sept. 2 at Rallis. I'll be supporting Simfonik Plague and Winterlock in full force! When Darkness Falls rocked my fucking soul. That's saying something considering I'm an atheist. Fans of heavy ass music should check these guys out. That drummer kicked some serious ass. I'm not worthy!! Kudos to the soundguys as well. They did a good job.

Hey man, You're gonna blow my cover! Thnx to my ingenious disguise, I've never been hassled by the man, despite my nefarious ways!!

I had a great time at this. Thanks for inviting us!
I caught about half of Devil Riding shotgun and totally dug it. The music had the delightful effect of making me feel a little more nihilistic than usual. Loved the grungy bass and the overall dark rocking sound. Hit By A Bus was great, and that was only the beginning. I could only prepare (by drinking more beer) for the bands which were about to continue rocking my face off. When Darkness Falls had some great rhythmic metal and gave me an opportunity to mosh with people I dont normally mosh with, like my band. Five Minute Sin had a crowd of women screaming for them their whole show. They were literally loosing their minds. Espcially when Franz realized what was going on and started showing off even more. My face was completely rocked off at this point, and I was jealous of the effect 5MS has one women. Simfonik Plague was crazy. The outdoor sound mix was really clear (bass was loud) and I could hear the mad technicallity of their music. Winterlock closed it off with a masterpiece about hating country music.

Rocksquawk Picnic is a good way to describe it. It was a gorgeous day for a picnic and the stage was amazing. I was very impressed with the sound. We had some troubles at first with a buzzing monitor, which the sound guys tried really hard to fix, but after a while we were just like, man forget it, we'll play through it. I'm sorry we couldn't stick around longer, it seems like everyone had a good time. I only caught half of Left Brain's set before we had to split to our next gig. From what I heard & saw, I liked it a lot. I got to see a couple songs by Coldsnap, whom I hadn't seen play since that imfamous gig at the Launchpad three years ago. (!!) I think we ought to consider more "Rocksquawk picnics" for next summer!

Dude...those girls were crazy. I turned around to put down my guitar after our set and when i turned back around i was surrounded by a swarm of frothing young ladies. I would feel like a pimp-ass mofo, but I have to admit that all those "chicks" were under twelve.
Yeah, it turned more into a support the local bands event than a support the troops event, but it was a great time - thanks to Geoff for putting it on! We got to drink beer, play on a good-sized stage and rock out - what more could you ask for? I was happy to be able see quite a few bands I'd never seen before and was suitably impressed. Props to all the bands who showed, and my apologies to the last 3 (5MS, SP, WL) for my early departure. After 7 hours of Airfest, I was pooped.
DRS had a mighty fine time. I stayed alive as long as I could. Passed out in my truck. Nothing worse than a half drunk passed out bassist. Everyone walked the walk that day. I got to meet and hear some of the finest Albuquerque has to offer. I can't wait for Sept. 2nd (Bring on the heavy!!!). Thanks big time to Winterlock!!! You guys are truly giants among midgets.

Hell yes! I'm so happy that everyone had a good time, dispite the lack of attendees... I don't know why there was such a lack of people but we definately had fun! I was very impressed by every band and am thankful for all of you actually showing up! I figured at least one band would say ehhh fuck it but no you all came through and made for a very fun afternoon/night! Also, kick ass stage eh? I know I had a lot of fun on that shit. Anyway's that was the official last Airfest as the club will not fund another one per the lack of participation from the base.. Oh well we tried. Next year I'll try for something off base cause damn if it wasn't fun. Also it was awesome to finally put faces to names with some of you and finally hear you guys play (ie; DRS and The Attic Banned both of which fucking rule!) and to everyone else who I had seen previously I feel put on one of their best shows. Sorry bout the sprinklers but fuck they didn't hurt anything so here's to water!
And... I guess you guy's like I Hate Country Music? eh? How'd the rest of our set sound? My wife said we sounded our best but she always says that... I want some real criticism!
I don't know why there was such a lack of people but we definately had fun!
I had wanted to go, but... well, here's what went wrong for me:
Saturday morning, I was still pretty fucked up from so much drinking and headbanging at the previous night's show of 500+Black Maria+Icky. The whole be-somewhere-by-11am thing just wasn't going to happen. So I thought, "Ok, I'll just rest a bit, and show up at Airfest at night or in the late afternoon."
And that's where I ran into trouble. I never did see a schedule. Maybe there was one, but I didn't have it and couldn't find it on the web. I didn't want to pay $10 to get in, just to find out that the bands I had most wanted to see had already played earlier. So I took a day off from rocking and rested my neck and liver.
If I had had a schedule and knew that showing up a few hours late would still let me see my favorites, I think I would have gone.

That was a lot of fun, Chris had a good time with his girls there and they ran around with some of the other kids that were there. Aside from us being minus one guitarist I don't think we sucked terribly bad. We wanted to stick around and hang out but we had a show that night as well and needed to get downtown to start papering.
I also want to thank Geoff for letting Division of Sound hop in on the show. They had a good time and got a chance to see some cool ABQ stuff. =)
