Clouds was good.

Pelican ... ugh. This band has a lot of potential. But as they are right now, they are boring and monotonous. I was really disappointed. Every single song was the same: some good jamming and some occasional good riffs, all leading to..
....
...
..nothing.

Every Pelican song (well, at least all the ones I heard last night) is a half a song. It's a *good* half, but still just a half. After the first one, I though, "All right. Good intro. I can't wait to hear what they're about to do." Then it happened again. And again. And again. I hope some day these guys get around finishing at least one of their songs, because they sound really nice.

I missed sleeping people and only saw one song of clouds due to our own Tuesday night band practice. I liked what I saw of Clouds though!

Pelican was a good heavy band with a wide variety of math-ey hard rock and ambient delay-soaked riffy noodle breakdown jams. But the absence of any vocals made their music sound more like a rehearsal jam to me than a highly respected touring band. Although I liked their sound a lot and dug most of stuff they were playing, for me, their music lacked soul and never managed to get me too excited. After about 4-5 songs, it all started sounding the same so we went to Frontier.

Where were you Dave Fame?????

i totally see what you're saying about pelican, and that's kind of characteristic in a lot of post rock/ambient metal type bands. but i kinda like that about pelican, for me i can just kinda get rocking and let the monolithic riffs push me along. their riffs are like plate tectonics. and the sheer volume brings it to a different level of intensity.

but i totally recognize it's not for everyone. i can totally put on stuff like pelican and isis and the like (even though isis is way better than pelican any day) and just kinda zone out and get lost in the riffage and epicness.

Everyone bailed on me that I was supossed to go with. By the time I found out, I was already too drunk to drive and the busses had stopped running. I'm really, really pissed I missed it.

I'll be there Saturday though!

much to my dismay i missed sleeping people, clouds was cool. pelican wasn't nearly as good as they have been in the past visits. by the way that sound guy with the glasses at the lp does a swell job. i had a good time.
