My face melted about 6 minutes into "Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner." Wow. Just, wow.

Giant cyborg Eddie walking on stage was simultaneously the coolest and most ridiculous thing I've ever seen at a concert. Bravo.

Mercifully, We arrived too late to hear Lauren(?) Harris. Maiden just rocked the lawn. I've never seen that place so packed. Great times were had by all.

I hadn't been to Journal Pavillion in 4 years, and this weekend was surprised that beer had actually gotten more expensive. Yeah, Maiden was good, but the place just really, really sucks. Seriously, I feel dirty after doing any sort of business with 'em, like I just got raped or something.

Maybe I'm just a whiner, but when I'm just so shockingly, openly, blatantly getting ripped off -- not just a little, but to such an in-your-face extreme -- it's literally distracting. When I pay $11 for a beer (and it's not imported from some Belgian monastery) I just can't get my head around it. It's not like I can't afford the $11, it's just that .. I think, "Wow. They didn't even apologize."

But Maiden was fun. The whole place turned into a giant karaoke machine as thousands of us sang along. I still think of Gers as "the new guy" and then it hits me he's been in the band for like 18 years. Maybe when it has been 28 years, I'll finally realize, "Oh, that's why he's on that stage. Because he belongs there! Of course. Why didn't I see this before?"

Dude, you should have gone for the $9 beers on the plastic cups. One digit less to complain about.

EDDIE!!
