This seemed like a pretty successful night. I actually had a lot of sober fun. A solid amount of warm bodies throughout the night. Lots of friendly women.. They had large posters of Greg printed out in Black and White and placed around the venues. So it was almost like his ghost was standing there enjoying the show. The pictures kinda came out haunting, in a good ethereal way. (I’ll post some up later on today)

Lots, and lots of different bands. I was able to watch End to End, (which is burpy speed technical death metal), Caustic Lye, and my favorites, 237, Brave New World and SuperGiant (Who was super fucking loud!) I got to hang out with Winterlock for a little bit who have been M.I.A. from rocksquawk. WTF!?!?!

When it comes down to it, I’m glad we were able to help out and it was great to be apart of something special.

P.S. To celebrate the night I had a bottle of GLENLIVET - 12 Year Old - Scotch Whisky waiting for me at the band house. So I wasn’t too concerned about drinking anything at the shows. I end up getting pulled over on my journey home (2:15am). I was speeding 53 in a 30 jockeying for poll position on the home stretch. "Have you been drinking..(No, I’m very much sober) Haven’t I pulled you over before? (Um, not that I can remember..(It’s Been 6 Years Actually)) Yeah, your that dude in a band right? Man, go home.. and slow down!" The cop was cool. I cashed in some of my good guy points and he let me go.

The event was a great success. Lots of people there throughout the day. I spent most of the day at El Rey and GW, except for going down to Atomic to catch the Skeletons. Saw tons of bands I've never even heard of and made some new friends. Heights heshers were representing in full force and heights bands brought all kinds of ear-punishing rock to downtown. It's ashame more of these rockers don't get down here more often.

Greg would have been smiling to have an party like this go down in his name. What an honor it was for SuperGiant to be asked to play it.

It would've been nice had they turned the heat up a bit (it was COLD!) but the smoke-free environment at El Rey was a nice change from the normal eye-bleeding smoke at bars. The sound in the El Rey is kinda weird but has a real nice natural reverb.

We recorded our set off of the soundboard and I'll post a song on our myspace this evening when I get a chance to dump it down to mp3.

Anyone have photos?

Sadly, as we were packing-up, there was a shooting at the Coliseum and there were gangstas running in all directions thru downtown. Two cops ran right past our van in the alley with sawed-off shotguns.

An ironic twist to the end of an event trying to say no to violence.

I have some pics of our band on our myspace, and on our website... but none of the other bands.

I was surprised by the weirdness of sound. I think it had to do with the small PA James brought (probably because he was donating his time and what not). Normally, I wouldn't have anyone other than James run sound.

The turnout was pretty good for this event. Slight demographic changes throughout the night. Seemed like all the bands who played were on top of their game.

I normally would have drank more, but the "specials" were killing me.

What is this bullshit? Is there ever any scene that these dickheads can't fuck up or destroy?

Anyone remember Babe's sports bar? A nice place for NTN trivia and shooting pool. Then they start motherfucking cholo rap night on thursdays, then eventually saturdays, then the weekly fighting, stabbing and shooting starts and the club closes two months later. Same thing with Bumper's back in the day. Good food, nice place, same story. Is it the money? Is it worth it to the owners?

Our so called leaders in this city get pretty hot about shutting down the Launchpad, curtailing all ages shows in general downtown over a fistfight at an unrelated club. Yet they are silent as the tomb when it comes to actual serious issues involving real violence, bloodshed, lawlessness and general mayhem that goes on all the time at places like The Colosseum and the Library, etc. Cruisers clog the streets every weekend throwing gang signs and busting the occasional cap, all the while openly drinking ad smoking dope in their cars. Yet it is we, the rock folks, who are the pecieved, publicized problem. Banana Joe's patrons can't behave themselves, so let's shut down Joe Anderson.

What the fuck?

Why doesn't anyone talk about this?

Why does "downtown revitalization" include hiding the panhandlers, painting everything real pretty and installing million dollar roundabouts all the while ignoring gun violence? Why are the frat boy/gangster/cholo bars allowed to operate given the fact that they have to have four fucking cop cars in the middle of Central in front of their clubs every weekend night? Could you imagine the Atomic or Burt's requiring this? They'd be gone in a heartbeat. Does it involve the possibility that they are big operations with deep pockets so they can afford the insurance, and do such lucrative business that the city is guaranteed a fat tax payment every quarter? Probably. And it comes at our expense. For whatever reason, they put the right of these places to operate above YOUR personal safety.

Its true all the gangsters are spawned from my retarded seeds, I give the rockers my best and the waste goes to the people who hang out of their cars on Central throwing gang signs and exchanging bullets. I am not proud of them but I am not perfect either...

It's not the bad Rap music; it's the violent videogames!!

It's not the violent videogames; it's the violence in film and on TV!!

No, it's that terrible heavy metal music!! Ozzy and Judas Priest made our children commit suicide!!

Elvis and that devil music music he plays will destroy our children!!

It's those Negroes and their "rhythm & blues" - they are the ones out to destroy the minds of our children!!

But we find in jazz and ragtime style of music, that the regular flow of rhythm is in fact a syncopated flow continuously, and it is this constant “offbeat” that the percussion and drums pound out in the beat that is the background to most of the rock music that followed the birth of jazz. This music literally rocks the chakras and the cells, atoms and electrons from their natural flow and beat to the rhythm of Mother, which we see in most traditional music in the world. It has the ability to draw the life force out of our bodies so that we have no strength or will to Be. It pounds out the rhythm of the carnal mind and anti-self, the antithesis of the Real Self...

etc. etc. etc.

Music never hurt anyone.

Downtown would be a better place without the Coliseum. Shots are fired there almost every weekend and the cops rarely even show up. I was standing outside the Launchpad when we heard about 5 shots go off. People ran in all directions. Where were the cops? They never showed up.

Morons listening to other morons talk shit only inspires them to be violent and sexist and yes to kill other people because they want to be hard like 25 cents or whatever he calls himself.

Music is very powerful and what artists say in there music influences people.

Bad rock, Bad Rap... Garbage is garbage, you Racer X of all people should know this

But it seems to me, Gangster Hater, that you were specifically were talking about "gangsta" rap, and you weren't discussing the various musical merits of this genre, but the folks who listen to it. So, rap. What about Jurassic 5, the Roots, De La Soul? All rap isn't bling and bitches (look up KRS One).As usual, Mr. RacerX has hit the nail on the head. Music never hurt anyone.

Wow, it's ironic where this thread is going given the title. I believe music never hurt anyone, it's the people, obviously, however, it just so happens that most of those caps being busted, come from people that listen to rap. But, I admit taking a liking to some rap songs, mostley old shit, I have yet to bust any caps, except for at the range, but, "Opinion's are like assholes"!!!!

Violence, use it for war, not music.

Okay, then - when you learn to properly use the rules of punctuation and grammar, come back and talk to me about idiots. Oh, and you're still hiding behind an alias.

Anyhoo, I have already made my position quite clear to anyone with two brain cells to rub together....
