It's always a treat to stumble into unheard sounds. So often in ourculture something that is catchy is taken up and sold and raped ad
infinum by some kind of consortium of businesses and mtv executives.

Betty and I went downstairs to relieve her of her horrible five minute
withdrawals from cigarettes, while the next band, The Dirty Birdies,
got ready. We started hearing the sound of a violin playing, i was
assuming it was for tuning purposes, it reminded me of the beginning
of an opera or concert where you hear the random cacophony of sounds.
Wasn't I surprised when i got upstairs to find that they had started
playing.

Random cacophony of sounds is exactly what the Dirty Birdies are all
about. Somewhere around seven or eight performers were on stage. Each
was wearing a mask. Three were on the ground, three were standing, and
another was hunched over something that looked similar to an 808.

Freeform Dark Electronic Jazz is the only way to describe the sounds
coming out of those instruments. It was like the ending of a rather
intense song, where all the instruments begin to fade out into their
own tunes, but, this was one, long tune, playing off each other.
Voices, violin, a drummer, sounds layered on sounds driving an
intensity that was like watching a great beast breathe in and out.
Betty and I sat on the floor and listened. I closed my eyes and
started seeing landscapes and dreams and ideas just on the edge of my
mind.

If i had been one of the idiot blond girls on The Hills, and walked
in, my mouth would have dropped open, looking around at all the scary
men in dresses and black stuff, and turned right around. Then i would
have talked for five minutes about how weird all that stuff was and
all the people inside were, and made fun of them for being weird.

The shear joy of music like what I heard is that it only happens once
and you have to stumble upon it, it wont be like some shitty emo band
who's marketing team finds you. It exists there, only on the edge, and
only for a few moments.
