Sounds like fun We might just have to do that.....He can leave his rig on stage when we play and maybe at the end of our set well have my drummer and bass player thrown down a groove and we can trade off shredding solos on top of it????The Metal maniac, mike O.

Even better than a "shred battle", why don't you guys pull out a couple of jugs like those dudes in the jug bands, and "shred" out some smokin' jug solos. Even better, pull out each others skin flutes and "shred" a few "licks". Sheeesh, didn't shredding and Yngwie type shit fizzle out like 15 years ago? Typical Albuquerque metal. Fuck, get with the times, idiots.

We enjoy the music we play and have found that others enjoy it, too. If this is not your style of music, please choose to listen to another genre and go support their shows.

Thanks for visiting our forum and wasting our time with your comments.

Hmmmm, I guess Requiem Mass is under the impression that the people in the photo were there to see just THEM. Do you by chance have a photo of your band where the headlining band(s) weren't national acts? Since I've been here, I've seen Requiem Mass twice and I honestly DO NOT remember the crowd looking like the one in the photo. Then again, Damage Plan wasn't at these shows, either.

I guess I owe the Requiem Mass guys an apology (not really, but what the hell) with my last post that I wrote in their forum about the "shred off" with Metal Mike. I know it's not Mass's fault but I still can't get over the fact that Systemic got signed to a label. I grew up in Minnesota and was rather involved with the metal scene in the Midwest, from being in bands to managing and booking up-and-coming acts. In the Midwest and East coast, Systemic (and just about any other band in NM) would be eaten alive. Truth be known, New Mexico is a good 10 years behind the times, and even though the musicianship in the local bands here are top notch, the music that is being pumped out is rather second rate. I tend to pick on Metal Mike and Systemic simply because they're EXTREMLEY one dimensional. I've wondered in the recent past how the hell they actually got signed. Since I've been here, I've been in contact with a "mole" who works at Grandma's and knows more about Metal Mike than he wishes to reveal. I learned from this person that Systemic spent $5000 to obtain this record deal. For the life of me, I can't remember of ANY band back home that ever had to do that, even if it was a small deal. Mudvayne is from Illinois and I know for a fact that they didn't have to do that to get signed. If that's not enough, he seems to run his mouth about his/Systemic's "superiority" in Albuquerque and how no other band in town even comes close to the talent level of him and his band. He bags HARD on how uneducated and simple New Mexican's are (I think he's lived here most of his life and even attended high school here - duh). My point being is that the Metal scene here in Albuquerque tends to use Systemic as a refrence point in how succesful the scene is. Just because they've got a deal doesn't necessarily mean they're the best band in town. Tetalistai (spelling, sorry) and Requiem Mass play as units FAR better than Systemic does.

If the scene here continues to use Systemic as the "measuring stick" of how this scene should be, then it's gonna be a very stagnant environment and no progress will be made. Just 'cuz Metal Mike is a killer lead guitarist doesn't mean him and Systemic should be the forefront in this scene. Oh well, whatever...

Thump,

Thanks for your reluctant apology. I'm not exactly sure where to start this, so I'll just start.

I understand you're new here and have some great experience under your belt. That's great for you and I wish you success here. What you don't understand is who we are and what we do. I figured this might be a good time to explain a little about us. Don't worry this not a bio call...

Requiem Mass has been around this little town since around 1990. That's a long time. We've seen a lot of bands come and go and are proud to still be writing and performing music. We love sharing this music with other people, whether its for a few in our jam room or reaching out to new fans while playing with nationals. We write music we like and are not too concerned with "how current" we are or whether people will think we are a flashback band. As Kris mentioned the main thing is that people dig the music - whether it's our crowd or anybody else's. We enjoy playing with other metal bands here especially since I'm sure you've noticed, the local support scene here for this genre is only based on bands that try and support each other. Metal here is NOT successful. We've had some great gigs on our own (no Nationals) and some pretty shitty ones as well. We've paid our dues time and time again and know what it's like to be on top of our game and also at the bottom. We will continue to perform and do our thing regardless of who gets the latest record deal or how they got it.

Pick on whoever you want. We're not here to regulate anyone's opinions or frustrations. If it has to do with Mike, I would prefer that you don't post here. If you do have a beef with us, fine - you won't be the first.

Dax

FivestringThump-Your obviously a very jealous
individual

I know Mike O. personally and not only is he a very cool guy(just opinionated and blunt)but
very humble as well...Still trying to find evidence of him as u said"bagging HARD on how simple and uneducated New Mexicans are""but I cant seem to find any posts that say that,You shouldnt make thing up that can harm someones character dude!!

He or Systemic does not go around declaring their superiority to anyone and they definitely dont say they are better than any of the other Metal bands here in town and NEVER HAVE so stop lying already nor did they PAY for their record deal,You heard wrong,From what he told me they used a Talent Company

Putting down a band for being smart enough to have their music shopped to labels by people with the contacts instead of starving on the road trying to get a deal is real smart,You go dude

Mike was born and raised in New Jersey and
went to high school here for 2 years(i should now i graduated in his class)If u cant handle someone with a strong opinion your a pussy and you shouldnt be talking shit or posting on a forum

As for your bands in the Midwest will eat NM bands for lunch what are you basing this on?And correct me if Im wrong but I dont know of ANY bands except Prince who came from Minnesota that are worth a shit,Help me out here?? Are u saying NM bands should be Trendy like all the crappy Metal thats existed(for the most part)since Thrash Metal died in the early 90's?The bands here sound like hat they sound because thats what they want to sound like not because they are behind the times

Systemic has a very Modern sounds as does Requiem Mass if u had any brains youd hear it,They both sound like Industrial meets Thrash with Shred guitarwork Thats hardy 10 years behind the times and hardly second rate...Two of the best Metal bands in NM if u ask me so go listen to some other shit like Slipknot if u dont like them,I think your brain is 10 years behind the times personally!!

Just cause your opinion sucks, your an idiot and a jealous asshole means to me that your words(if u call lies words) mean nothing and everyone in town should ignore u and your bullshit

Why dont u come to Misty's this weekend and announce who you are,Wed love to see you at the show or why dont u just move back to Minnesota(if thats where your really from,I bet you another version of Cracksmoker or some guy in an "opposing band here in town or friends with a band here in town)if u dont like the music scene here

Fivestring, you have a way of looking at things, that seems alien to me.

You "can't get over the fact" that a band you don't like got signed? Remember, Britney Spears and Limp Bizkit got signed too. But so did Deep Purple. Getting signed is only a meaningful way of "measuring" a band, if you're a salesman. I dunno, maybe that's really what you do for a living. But for the rest of the world, the business deals a band makes, don't tell us much, either good or bad. We measure a metal band by how they make us feel. If you obsess over this one aspect of a band, it makes me wonder if you feel anything at all -- why do you listen to music?

You also seem concerned about how a band found someone to deal with; it seems to be a big deal to you that they hired someone to shop around, instead of doing the legwork themselves. Criticizing that, would be like me critizing Requiem Mass over the software Sid used to mix their CD. Maybe you have something intelligent to say about it, but you haven't said it yet, and regardless, it's so tangental to the artistic aspects, that it has nothing to do with the band's quality.

Another weird concept: "a good 10 years behind the times". You really are a salesman. Who else would measure a band by how well (or how badly) they follow current marketing trends?

I have nothing against people who work in that profession, but if you take your work home with you, it might keep you from being able to hear music. Dude, when Friday night comes, leave the fucking business world behind until Monday, come to the bar, listen, and bang your head.
